After a divorce or loss, there is a point we come to when we need to move the focus back to ourselves. It is time to start dream building again.
Put the focus back on you today. In your writing ponder what dreams you have let go of. Use the following prompts to help you get started in dream building for your future:
What did you think you would be doing at this age?
Try to think back to when you were 16 years old. What were your dreams and goals? What did you want to be and do when you grew up? Write any of the dreams and goals from your 16-year-old self.
Before you got married, what was your dream or idea of how your life would look?
What did you imagine your future life to look like when you were getting married? It can be painful to think back about the dreams and goals we had for marriage, especially when it is over. But, hidden in this are forgotten dreams and goals. These can be goals that ignite your spark for life again. A dream that had been forgotten for many years can invigorate you. Write down all the ideas you had for life, back before you were married.
What would you be doing now if you were not so worried about what others thought?
When we divorce, a lot of our time and energy goes into worrying about what others think. We can get stuck in this pattern of worrying about how our actions are being seen by others. This can keep us very stuck. What would you do if you were not so worried about the opinion of others?
What would you be doing now that others might say was not ‘smart’?
What would you do if no one was watching, no one was judging?
Dare to dream big again.
This is your time to focus fully on your needs and goals.
Look back over the answers you have written to the questions above. Which ones make your heart leap a little with excitement? Which goals call out to you? Are there any forgotten dreams that you now want to pursue?
Over the next few days re-read over your answers. Let these forgotten dreams and goals sink into your mind and grow into new ideas or goals for your future.
