The Importance of Daydreaming

Today is a Great Day to Daydream

Going through change is tough. Finding some small tools to help us find our balance again is important. We need to give our mind a break from the stress around us when we are going through change. One of the easiest ways to do this is to allow your mind to wander. To go on a mental journey, somewhere out of your current reality. Yes, this is permission to daydream a little today!

Go Somewhere Amazing

Find somewhere quiet where you can be undisturbed for 5 – 10 minutes.

Close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths in and out.

Imagine yourself somewhere warm and sunny.

Feel the sunshine on your skin, and smell the fresh air.

Now imagine you are in one of your favorite types of spaces. It could be somewhere you have been before or somewhere you have only seen in a picture. It could be a forest, the seaside, a beautiful home, or in a convertible car riding along a coastal road. Imagine it in full-color detail.  Place yourself there and enjoy the feeling of being somewhere completely different. Let your body relax as you explore the view. Maybe you will dip your feet into a stream and feel the cool water over your skin.

Allow yourself to stay in this place for a few minutes and really enjoy the mental journey.

When you are ready take another 5 deep breaths and slowly open your eyes.

Take a moment or two to write about the experience.

How it felt, what you thought, where you went.

Move on with your day with the picture in the back of your mind. Revisit and daydream some more anytime you need to escape for a 5-minute revival.
